Kentucky Chief Lauds Training Safety Officer Program
The Training Safety Officer program has led to safer law enforcement training nationally. It incorporates six steps to get ahead of a training accident: have a planning meeting, develop a safety plan, conduct a site inspection/set up the training space, have a safety briefing, observation/role players and after-action review.
As this practice has been incorporated into Kentucky law enforcement training, many law enforcement executives have seen the benefits in their own agencies. Ashland Police Chief Todd Kelley said his department already had a good firing range program, but he has seen how incorporating a TSO has made it even better.
