Protecting Houses of Worship

Protecting Houses of Worship

Schools are deservedly in the spotlight right now in regard to acts of violence perpetrated against them. However, extremists are targeting many other locations, too. Some of these have included military recruitment centers, theatres, dance clubs and churches.

In order to provide law enforcement with the ability to assist houses of worship within their communities, the Justice Technology Information Center has created an app that it is free to law enforcement agencies.

According to the Justice Technology Information Center, the app is designed to help local law enforcement agencies work with the houses of worship in their jurisdiction to “evaluate facilities and create plans for preventing attacks and prepare for other catastrophic events.”

The app allows houses of worship to set up their own processes which work with local emergency service providers to prepare for active threats, medical emergencies, missing children and other emergency situations. You can read more on this app in “Tech Beat.”

The app is called SHOW (Safeguarding Houses of Worship) and is only available to law enforcement agencies. The above link will take you to the webpage where you will be provided with information on how to request the access code to download the app.
