Executive Advisor Joins DOCJT Staff
In January, the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) welcomed Michael Bogan as an executive advisor.
”I want to thank Commissioner Nicolai Jilek for having faith in me and bringing me in to carry on the goals and mission of DOCJT,” said Bogan of his appointment. “Knowing (the department) has such a rich history in quality law enforcement training, I would like to serve DOCJT and help them to maintain that level of quality.”
Bogan comes to DOCJT following a successful 20-year career at Louisville Metro Police Department, where he retired after climbing from officer to major division commander of the city’s sixth and seventh divisions. Bogan began his career with the Jefferson County Police Department, a role he was proud to carry on as a second-generation officer. Watching his father, who served as both a police officer and firefighter for the Rosemont Public Safety Department (Illinois), Bogan observed he always made the citizens he served feel as if they mattered, which left a lasting impact on him as he entered the career field himself.
During his most recent assignment, Bogan managed a large team comprised of commanding officers, patrol and resource officers and detectives, while being responsible for monitoring and managing crime and crime trends. Additionally, he worked to cultivate and maintain community relationships to foster trust and accessibility between law enforcement, individuals, stakeholders and elected officials.
Bogan spent part of his LMPD tenure as a police-training instructor for the department, often placing an emphasis on character development with his trainees. He also served as a police sergeant and member of LMPD’s Special Investigations Unit and as a lieutenant commanding the Ninth Mobile Division, which was tasked with apprehension of individuals who had committed violent crimes.
The married father of three was born and raised in Chicago before coming to the University of Louisville, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in justice administration and played football for the Cardinals.
