2021 Law Enforcement Comprehensive Survey Expected Late May
In late May, the Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) will distribute the 2021 Law Enforcement Comprehensive Survey to law enforcement leaders across the state to gather information, not only to support law enforcement training, but also to provide real-time data for agencies to use in their departments. The survey will be delivered to the agency's email box.
Often referred to as the “salary survey,” DOCJT conducts a comprehensive survey every three years to hear directly from law enforcement about their operations and needs.
“This survey is the most expansive review of law enforcement data that is produced in the commonwealth,” said Rachel Lingenfelter, DOCJT procedures development specialist and survey administrator. “It looks at everything from personnel allocations and equipment to training and emerging topics and so much more. It gives us a synopsis of what agencies across the state are doing to meet their missions.”
This year, one topic of special focus will be recruitment and retention issues.
The deadline for responding to the survey will be late June. Once all responses are compiled, Lingenfelter said the final report will be presented this fall during the Police Executive Command Course. The final report also will be available on the DOCJT website.
“Completion of the comprehensive survey allows DOCJT to continually assess the current training needs of those we serve,” said DOCJT Commissioner Nicolai Jilek. “This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from our clients on critical topics. We need all of our agency leaders to talk with their staff, gather their input, and respond to the survey so we can collect the most accurate information possible.”
For the first time ever, DOCJT is also developing an independent telecommunication comprehensive survey. More details about that survey will be released later this month.
While the surveys will help DOCJT respond better to the commonwealth’s current training needs, the desire is for law enforcement and telecommunication agencies to also utilize the results to help them in the future for their own policies and planning. We encourage all agencies to participate and complete the surveys. Your responses will allow DOCJT to assist with course development and share current trends with clients.
