Istvan Kovacs - Shelbyville Police Department

Istvan Kovacs was appointed Shelbyville Police chief on Oct. 10. Kovacs has 29 years of law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career in 1988 with the Kentucky State Corrections Department. Kovacs then served the Shelbyville Police Department for two-and-a-half years before joining Jeffersontown Police Department, where he retired in 2004. In 2005, Kovacs returned to Shelbyville, moving through the ranks, by becoming major in February 2013 and now chief. He is a graduate of Department of Criminal Justice Training Basic Training Academy class No. 191. Kovacs also attended Jefferson Community College, University of Maryland and East Carolina University. Kovacs is a United States Marine Corps veteran.


Steve Collinsworth - Cold Spring Police Department

Steve Collinsworth was appointed Cold Spring Police chief on Sept. 1. Collinsworth has 25 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Boone County Police Department and served from 1992 to 2001, before the agency merged with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. Collinsworth retired in 2012 as lieutenant in charge of traffic. In 2013, Collinsworth joined the Southgate Police Department as a patrol officer and moved through the ranks, becoming assistant chief before he was named Cold Spring’s chief. Collinsworth has an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University. He also is a graduate of Department of Criminal Justice Training Basic Training Academy class No. 215, Academy of Police Supervision class No. 11 and Criminal Justice Executive Development class No. 18. Collinsworth is a United States Marine Corps veteran.
